Welcome! We are thrilled you are interested.

Here you will meet the amazing people behind the scenes. Each of the Board Members bring a unique perspective to this endeavor. Individually, each plays their own instrument. But when these separate pieces flow together in a complementary harmony, the resulting composition is more than the sum of its parts. This all starts with our “Conductor”.

Bearded President sitting at the table

Bernie Schulman

Jack of all trades. Bernie’s life philosophy has been “why should someone else do for me, what I can learn to do for myself?” His attention to detail, and being able to associate seemingly diverse concepts meant – what he learned “over here” he could apply “over there”.  As a General Contractor he had to know and coordinate each trade’s job, but he also knows how to defer to the professional for the details. Whatever he needed to learn, he would go to the library to learn, and then do. Today, the internet helps with that. But, what happens when the information isn’t on the internet?

It is his story of cancer diagnosis, and emergency life altering surgery that revealed to him a great lack of readily available “How to live with it” information for the “new patient” on the internet. Not the technical doctor information, but the “at home life information” that only a person that has experienced a medical intervention can acquire. Quality Life Solutions, Inc. was then created as a Non Profit to bring experienced “patient to patient” information, to the new patient who needs it. His hope is to expand this concept and bring this resource into every area of health recovery where peer to peer information is helpful, needed, or lacking.

Marea Schulman

Secretary

Marea’s lifelong motto has been the Winston Churchill quote- “There is something about the outside of a horse that is good for the inside of a man”.  Marea began riding professionally in 1973. She credits Wisconsin jumper rider and trainer, Fred Schroeder with giving her an amazing early education. Frank Gombolay was also a powerful influence, as well as Thom Hardy in recent years. Over the next 25 years, she divided her time between competing jumpers and hunters at the national level and training horses, ponies, and riders. She also had a brief stint as a racehorse jockey in the late 1980’s.

Wanting to pursue a college degree, Marea took a break from the horse industry in 1997. She graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2001, receiving a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies (Psychology, Criminal Justice, Philosophy) from the University of Baltimore.

In 2005 she found her way back to a life with horses when she joined the Garrison Forest School riding community, as a riding instructor, where she worked until 2009. She also taught riding part time at both St. Timothy’s School and Best Intentions Farm, and attended “Master Class” clinics with Olympians Michael Matz, Joe Fargis and Greg Best to further her own equestrian education.

Marea opened and operated Skyline Training Stables from April 2012 to November 2017, where her teaching was focused on inspiring both children and adults to develop compassion, and a desire to learn more about horses than just “horseback riding”. Currently she travels to private farms, where she continues to teach riders and train horses. Form, movement and body dynamics are her foundational building blocks for success.

She lives in Baltimore, Maryland with her wonderful husband and their amazing Giant Schnauzers. They also have 3 horses.
